Ruger's Raw Feeding in Real Life

Meet Ruger! Once his raw food hits the bowl, he doesn't look up until every last bite is gone.

At Central Florida Pet Raw Pet Food, raw feeding isn't just something we offer, it's how we feed our own dogs too. We believe mealtime should be simple, nutritious, and something your dog looks forward to every day.

Ruger definitely approves!

Why Feed Raw?

Pet owners choose raw dog food for different reasons. A diet made from minimally processed, whole food-ingredients may help support healthy digestion, skin and coat, lean body condition, smaller firmer stools, and mealtime interest for picky eaters.

Individual results may vary, and every pet has different nutritional needs.

Complete & Balanced or PMR-What's the Difference?

Complete & Balanced

Complete & Balanced raw recipes are formulated to provide nutrients your pet needs in the appropriate amounts. Recipes that meet AAFCO nutritional standards can be fed as a complete diet according to their labeled life stage, making them a convenient option for pet owners who want a nutritionally complete raw diet without having to balance the recipe themselves.

Prey Model Raw (PMR 80/10/10)

Prey Model Raw follows an 80% muscle meat, 10% bone and 10% organ ratio, offering a simple whole-food option with a variety of proteins.

Unlike AAFCO Complete & Balanced recipes, PMR 80/10/10 may require additional nutritional planning when fed as the primary diet.

Not Sure Which One to Choose?

Central Florida Raw Pet Food can help you understand the differences between Complete & Balanced raw food and PMR 80/10/10 so you can choose an option that fits how you plan to feed your pet.

How to Transition to Raw Food

Every dog adjusts differently. Some dogs transition easily, while others may do better with a slower change, especially if they have been eating the same diet for a long time.

A gradual transition may look like this:

  • Days 1-4: 25% raw food + 75% current food
  • Days 5-8: 50% raw food + 50% current food
  • Days 9-12: 75% raw food + 25% current food
  • Day 13+: 100% raw food

These percentages are a general starting point and not a required schedule. Watch your dog's stool, appetite, and overall response. If your dog develops digestive upset, slow the transition and give them more time at the current ratio before increasing the amount of raw food.

When introducing raw food, starting with one raw recipe at a time can make it easier to see how your dog responds before adding more variety.

Dogs with medical conditions, special dietary needs, or a history of significant digestive problems should have dietary changes discussed with their veterinarian.

How Much Raw Food Should I Feed?

A common starting point for adult dogs is approximately 2.5% of body weight per day. Every dog is different, and feeding amounts are general guidelines and may need to be adjusted based on age, activity level, metabolism and body condition.

General Guidelines:

  • Puppies (up to 14 months old) need 5-10% of their body weight per day, split into multiple meals to support rapid growth.
  • Adult Dogs (1-7 years old) typically require 2-3% of their body weight daily, adjusted for energy level and body condition.
  • Senior Dogs (7+ years old) may need 1.5-2.5% of their body weight, depending on metabolism and mobility.

Adjustments for Activity & Body Condition:

  • Highly active dogs (working, sporting breeds) may require increased portions for optimal performance.
  • Less active or overweight dogs may need smaller portions to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Underweight dogs should be fed at the higher end of their range for healthy weight gain.
